Thailand reports 581 road accidents in first three days of Songkran, tourists urged to stay vigilant

Authorities step up safety measures during Thailand’s “Seven Dangerous Days” Songkran campaign, as the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reports 581 road accidents between April 10–12, with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and Tourist Police Bureau working closely to protect both local and international visitors, while reinforcing the message to avoid drink driving and stay cautious on the roads.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has provided updates on road accidents during the first three days of the Songkran holiday, as authorities intensify safety measures for tourists nationwide.

​Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana stated that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, together with the Tourist Police Bureau and other agencies, is closely monitoring safety during the “Seven Dangerous Days” campaign to maintain confidence among Thai and international tourists.


​The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported 193 accidents on April 12, 2026, bringing the total to 581 accidents from April 10 to 12. Data from Tourist Assistance Centers reported that 7 foreign tourists have been injured during the past three days.

The Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening safety measures at key tourist destinations and is working with all agencies to ensure a safe and orderly holiday period.


​The government urges the public and visitors to exercise caution, avoid reckless driving, and strictly follow the “Don’t Drink and Drive” principle to ensure a safe Songkran for all in Thailand.
