PATTAYA, Thailand – A dispute between two electric vehicle (EV) drivers escalated into a physical confrontation at a charging station in Chonburi, highlighting growing tensions over limited charging infrastructure as EV usage continues to rise in Thailand.
The incident occurred on April 11 at a PTT Station EV charging point (EV Station PluZ) near the Jomtien intersection in Banglamung district. According to eyewitnesses and social media posts, the conflict began when two drivers disagreed over who arrived first and who had priority to charge their vehicles. The disagreement quickly escalated into a heated argument before turning into a physical altercation.
The situation was eventually brought under control after bystanders intervened and helped separate the individuals involved. No serious injuries were reported.
Video clips of the incident were later shared widely on Facebook groups related to EV users, quickly going viral and sparking debate online about charging etiquette, infrastructure shortages, and driver behavior.
Social media reactions were mixed, with some users joking about the situation, while others criticized the lack of clear queue systems at charging stations. Comments ranged from humor about “EV drivers fighting over chargers” to frustration over unclear rules, with many pointing out that disputes like this may become more common as EV adoption increases faster than charging capacity.
The incident has also reignited discussion about whether Thailand’s EV infrastructure is keeping pace with the rapid growth of electric vehicles, especially in high-traffic tourist areas such as Pattaya and Jomtien, where demand for charging points often spikes during holidays.
