BANGKOK, Thailand – Immigration Bureau officials have joined forces with Airports of Thailand (AOT) to deploy more than 200 officers at Suvarnabhumi Airport, preparing for a major influx of travelers during the 2026 Songkran festival.

The operation, launched on April 9, aims to handle passenger volumes expected to exceed 200,000 people per day across Thailand’s main airports, including Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Hat Yai.

Officers have been stationed at arrival halls, particularly at key entry points, to ensure smooth immigration processing while maintaining strict security standards. Authorities say all immigration counters will be fully staffed during peak flight periods, with a target to process passengers within 30 minutes.

In addition to security measures, officials are emphasizing Thailand’s signature hospitality. Arriving international tourists are being welcomed with smiles and traditional garlands, creating a warm first impression in line with the country’s “Land of Smiles” image.

The Immigration Bureau confirmed that leave for officers has been suspended during the operational period from April 10–16 to ensure sufficient manpower, while coordination with relevant agencies has been strengthened to enhance both safety and service efficiency.

Officials stressed that the dual focus remains on national security and seamless traveler experience, as Thailand gears up for one of its busiest travel periods of the year.
