Dark clouds gather over Bangkok as the Thai Meteorological Department issues a warning for summer storms expected to affect Upper Thailand, including the Northeast, North, Central, East, and the capital, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, hail, and lightning during the hot-season transition.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning regarding summer storms across Upper Thailand, effective from February 23 to 25.

The weather will first affect the Northeast, then spread to the North, Central, and East regions, including Bangkok and nearby areas. Residents should expect thunderstorms, strong winds, occasional hail, isolated heavy rain, and possible lightning strikes.

The storms result from a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China extending over Northeast Thailand and the South China Sea. This system brings southerly and southeasterly winds to the Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions, as well as to the Gulf of Thailand. At the same time, westerly troughs are moving through the North and Northeast, while Upper Thailand continues to experience hot weather.

Residents in affected areas should stay indoors and avoid open spaces, large trees, and unstable structures or billboards. Farmers are advised to secure crops and take steps to protect livestock and produce. The public should also take health precautions during these rapid weather changes.

Citizens are encouraged to monitor updates from the Thai Meteorological Department at http://www.tmd.go.th or by calling the 24-hour hotlines at 0 2399 4012-13 and 1182. (NNT)
