A revised design for the Red Line suburban rail extension shows the future Ramathibodi Station with a direct skywalk connection to Ramathibodi Hospital, aimed at improving access for patients, staff, and commuters as the project advances toward Cabinet approval.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The State Railway of Thailand is advancing revisions to the Red Line suburban rail extension, known as the Missing Link project, following a public consultation on updates to its environmental impact assessment. The revised plan calls for relocating the former Ratchawithi Station, renaming it Ramathibodi Station, and adding a skywalk connection to Ramathibodi Hospital to improve public access.

Under the updated design, the station site will be moved from the north side of the Uphai Chetsaduthit intersection to the south side, about 100 meters from its original location. The station will be renamed to reflect its proximity to Ramathibodi Hospital.

The new layout includes a skywalk linking the station directly to the future Ramathibodi Rail Station Interchange Building. The change follows the hospital’s request to create a direct rail connection to support convenient travel for patients, medical personnel, and visitors.

The railway agency will compile feedback from government agencies, private groups, and the public for inclusion in the revised environmental assessment, which will be submitted to the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning for review. Consultants will also be appointed to reassess the project’s technical details and budget framework.

The revised design and budget are expected to be submitted to the Cabinet by December 2026, with construction scheduled to begin in 2028. (NNT)
