SRT pledges full support after crane collapse on passenger train leaves 30 dead

The State Railway of Thailand has expressed deep condolences following a high-speed rail construction crane collapse onto a passenger train on January 14, 2026, confirming 30 fatalities and 69 injuries, and pledging full compensation, medical care, and long-term support for victims and their families.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) extends its deepest condolences after a construction crane from the high-speed rail project collapsed onto a passenger train on January 14, 2026, causing fatalities and injuries. The agency reaffirmed its full commitment to providing assistance and care to all those affected.

SRT reported that the incident involved 161 people, including 157 passengers and 4 contractor employees. Thirty fatalities were confirmed, including 29 passengers and one contractor employee, and the identities of all deceased have been verified. Sixty-nine people were injured. Of these, 52 have been discharged, while 17 remain hospitalized and continue to receive care and monitoring from SRT.


SRT stated that it is prepared to provide full support to the families of the deceased. Initial compensation is 1,690,000 baht per person, which includes SRT assistance, compensation under the Criminal Case Victim Compensation Act, insurance from Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited, and support from Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited. SRT is also coordinating with government agencies and partners to ensure comprehensive and fair assistance for affected passengers.

SRT has provided initial financial assistance, hospital visitation, and ongoing medical support for injured victims. Passengers with damaged or lost property may submit claims to SRT for review. (NNT)
