BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the opening of the GPO Pharmaceutical Summit 2026, held yesterday (Jan 15) to mark the 60th anniversary of the Government Pharmaceutical Organization, and outlined Thailand’s direction in strengthening national drug security while advancing its pharmaceutical industry internationally.

Addressing the international conference, Anutin described pharmaceutical security as a key pillar of national health security. He noted that the GPO has played a vital role over six decades in ensuring access to safe, effective, and affordable medicines for the Thai public.

The summit provided a platform for knowledge exchange on vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, and medical innovation, with participation from experts and industry leaders from Thailand and abroad. Anutin said such cooperation supports stronger health systems and deeper collaboration in pharmaceutical science.

According to the prime minister, the GPO is now working to become a global innovation gateway while strengthening core capabilities, including active pharmaceutical ingredient production, research and development, and domestic vaccine manufacturing.
