BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Department of Highways (DOH) will begin collecting tolls on Motorway Route 81 (M81), linking Bang Yai in Nonthaburi with Kanchanaburi, starting at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, January 16.

DOH Director-General Piyapong Jiwatkulpaisarn said the decision follows the successful completion of system installation and testing after a free trial period that began on October 31, 2025. The motorway is now fully equipped with toll collection systems, intelligent transport systems (ITS), traffic control centers, vehicle weight control, and data communication networks, operated by BGSR81 Co., Ltd., the private concessionaire.

Tolls will be calculated based on vehicle type and actual distance travelled, with eight toll plazas along the route: Bang Yai, Nakhon Chai Si, Sisa Thong, Nakhon Pathom East, Nakhon Pathom West, Tha Maka, Tha Muang, and Kanchanaburi. For example, a four-wheel vehicle traveling from Bang Yai to Nakhon Chai Si will pay 45 baht, while the maximum toll for the full Bang Yai–Kanchanaburi journey is 150 baht.

Drivers can choose between two payment options at exit points. The first is the barrier-free M-Flow system, which allows vehicles to pass without stopping, with payments deducted automatically from linked credit or debit cards, bank accounts, or Easy Pass and M-Pass accounts upgraded to Plus services. Users without prior registration can also pay later within seven days via the MFlowThai application, Line OA @mflowthai, the official website, or at 7-Eleven service counters nationwide.

The second option is cash payment, where drivers slow down and pay directly to toll booth staff.

DOH officials encourage motorists to register for M-Flow in advance for greater convenience, access to travel history, and receipt issuance. Registration is available via the MFlowThai application or website. From January 14, registration points with RFID tag installation will also be available at all eight toll plazas, particularly serving users in Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, and Kanchanaburi.

The Department of Highways reminded motorists to observe speed limits on the M81: a maximum of 120 km/h for passenger cars, 100 km/h for buses and trucks, and 80 km/h for heavy trucks and trailers. (TNA)
