Vehicles queue along the M6 motorway near Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima, early Saturday morning, prompting authorities to warn Pattaya and eastern province travellers to plan ahead amid heavy New Year traffic.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Traffic heading toward Thailand’s northeastern region was already heavy early Sunday morning, particularly along the M6 motorway and Mittraphap Road in the Pak Chong area, as people began returning to their hometowns ahead of the New Year holidays.

Reporters observed dense traffic on the inbound section of the M6 motorway toward Nakhon Ratchasima, especially around kilometre marker 113 near Pin Thong Village in Khanong Phra Subdistrict, Pak Chong District. A high volume of vehicles caused slow-moving traffic and intermittent congestion, with many motorists choosing to travel early to avoid peak holiday gridlock.

Mittraphap Road between Pak Chong and Sikhio districts also experienced heavy traffic, particularly in front of Khlong Phai Prison, where inbound lanes toward Nakhon Ratchasima were crowded from the early morning hours.

Authorities warned that traffic volumes are expected to increase steadily throughout the day. Travellers departing from Pattaya and eastern provinces toward the Northeast are advised to allow extra travel time, monitor traffic updates, and consider alternative routes where possible to avoid prolonged delays.

Officials also urged motorists to rest adequately, drive with caution, and comply with traffic regulations during the busy holiday travel period.
