SONGKHLA, Thailand – Songkhla Province organized a large-scale Big Cleaning Day to accelerate post-flood recovery in Hat Yai and restore the city to normal conditions as quickly as possible.
The operation was led by Songkhla Governor Ratthasart Chidchoo, together with Commander of the Second Naval Area Command Vice Admiral Theparit Larpluer, deputy governors, and heads of government agencies. Participants included civil servants, military and police personnel, local administrative organizations, foundations, volunteers, students, and residents. The opening assembly was held in front of Big C Extra on Phetkasem Road in Hat Yai District.
Even though the floodwaters have gone down, a lot of waste and debris are still left in many places. Provincial authorities worked with different groups to collect waste and clean roads, public spaces, and important business areas. This effort helps Hat Yai, a key economic center in Southern Thailand, to recover swiftly and resume normal economic activities.
During the event, the governor thanked all the officials and volunteers for their efforts in restoring the city. After that, everyone went to their assigned areas, starting with Zone 1 from Kho Hong Road to the Fountain Roundabout, to clear away the remaining waste and debris.
To make the cleanup more effective, Hat Yai was divided into four main zones: Zone 1 from the Kho Hong Intersection to the Fountain Roundabout, Zone 2 from Sam Sip Met Road to Khlong Rian Intersection, Zone 3 from the Fountain Roundabout to Hat Yai District Office, and Zone 4 from Hat Yai District Office to Sanam Bin Nok area. This approach ensures a thorough and efficient recovery, allowing local communities to return to normal life. (NNT)
