BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul met with Indonesian Ambassador Rachmat Budiman at Government House on December 18 as the ambassador concluded his tenure in Thailand, reaffirming the two countries’ close ties. The meeting took place as Thailand and Indonesia celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and continue regular high-level exchanges.

Welcoming the Indonesian official, Anutin cited recent engagements with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Bangkok and at regional summits to advance bilateral cooperation. Ambassador Rachmat, in return, expressed appreciation for the long-standing relationship between the two sides.

During the talks, the Indonesian envoy thanked the Thai government for assisting in the repatriation of Indonesian nationals who were victims of transnational scam operations in Myanmar. Both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation to combat transnational crime, including online scams, and agreed to further strengthen coordination following Indonesia’s participation in the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams hosted by Thailand.

The meeting also addressed cooperation on combating illegal wildlife trafficking. The prime minister said Thailand is preparing to return four orangutans seized by Thai authorities to Indonesia within the month, viewing the move as part of continued collaboration on wildlife conservation.

Regional developments were also discussed, including the situation along the Thailand–Cambodia border. The prime minister reiterated Thailand’s position that it has acted in line with existing agreements, while the Indonesian ambassador expressed concern over the escalation of violence and voiced hope that all parties would reach a mutually acceptable resolution. (NNT)
