The Meteorological Department urges caution as heavy rainfall, strong waves, and potential flash floods threaten southern provinces, while shifting weather patterns and fog continue to affect areas across upper Thailand.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory for southern Thailand, noting increased rainfall and heavy downpours expected in several provinces.

TMD Director-General Sukunyanee Yavincharn reported that over the next 24 hours, heavier rainfall is likely in Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket. In upper Thailand, scattered rain and thunderstorms may occur in parts of the lower North, lower Northeast, and the East, while cool morning conditions persist.

Residents in southern provinces are advised to exercise caution due to potential flash flooding and accumulated rainfall. People in upper Thailand are encouraged to take care of their health during fluctuating weather conditions and remain vigilant when traveling through areas affected by fog. Dry weather in some regions also increases the risk of fire hazards.

In the Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to reach 1–2 meters, with higher waves in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Mariners in both the Gulf and the Andaman Sea are urged to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas.

The department also noted that particulate matter remains at moderate levels in the North and Central regions—including Bangkok and its vicinity—and the East, due to ongoing rainfall. (NNT)
