PATTAYA, Thailand – The much-anticipated Pattaya International Fireworks Festival faced criticism this year as attendees reported overcrowding, blocked pathways, and aggressive vendor practices along the beach. While thousands gathered to enjoy the displays, many struggled to find seating and safe access to public facilities.

Several visitors complained that private vendors had set up chairs and mats in ways that blocked exits and passageways, with some charging as much as 300 baht per seat. “I came all the way to see the fireworks, but there was nowhere to sit. Some vendors even refused entry if you didn’t pay,” said one frustrated attendee. Other spectators reported that tents and chairs were so tightly packed that access to bathrooms and main pathways was severely restricted.

Festival officials and local authorities were praised for attempting to enforce regulations, but many visitors urged stricter measures. Social media users called for interventions against illegal activities such as drug use and overcharging by motorbike taxis. Several posts highlighted that in some areas, chairs were reserved by officials but remained empty, while vendors continued to occupy large stretches of prime beach space.

Vendor chaos: Private vendors set up mats and chairs, some charging 300 baht per seat, limiting access for festivalgoers.

City officials reminded attendees and vendors alike to comply with local regulations, stating that law enforcement could take action against repeat offenders. “Everyone must respect the rules to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors,” a spokesperson said.

Despite these issues, the fireworks themselves proceeded without interruption, drawing large crowds who braved the crowded conditions for the spectacle. Still, many long-time visitors expressed disappointment, saying that the festival experience was compromised by disorderly setups and unchecked vendor practices.

Authorities have promised to review the festival layout and enforce stricter crowd management measures for future events to ensure safety, fair access, and a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
