Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow says more than 4,200 stranded tourists — mostly Malaysians and Singaporeans — have received assistance and many have already returned home, as Thailand coordinates international aid for the Hat Yai flood crisis.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow announced on Friday that more than 4,200 Malaysian and Singaporean tourists stranded by severe flooding in the southern city of Hat Yai are safe.

Sihasak confirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) established a coordination center to handle assistance for foreign nationals and streamline international aid offers, which include equipment and personnel from the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre).

The Minister stated that the affected tourists, predominantly 4,000 Malaysians and 200 Singaporeans, had been successfully assisted, with some having already returned home.

The MFA center is serving as the central point for relief efforts and inquiries for foreigners, operating under the government’s flood emergency body.

Sihasak noted that while Thailand remains confident in its internal capacity, it is coordinating with nations offering assistance for the recovery phase.

Foreign nationals needing aid can contact the center at 02-643-5264 or [email protected]. (TNA)
