BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is urgently driving the recovery efforts in Hatyai, Songkhla, following severe flooding, with a critical focus on the respectful handling of deceased victims and the security of residents’ property.

Initially, a budget has been allocated to pay 2 million baht in compensation for each fatality.

After meeting with local agencies at Sena Narong Camp during his field visit to Hat Yai today, Mr. Anutin confirmed close communication with the Supreme Commander, General Ukris Boontanan, who is managing the situation under the Emergency Decree. The Prime Minister announced that he has specifically tasked the Ministry of Public Health with mobilizing forensic experts to accelerate the identification of victims, aiming to quickly return bodies to their families for funeral rites. The establishment of seven field hospitals across Songkhla has already been completed.

The recovery plan extends to major logistics and security measures. Mr. Anutin ordered all relevant agencies to launch “House Cleaning” operations and arranged for flood victims to be temporarily housed in separate hotel accommodations before they can return home.

Furthermore, addressing traffic issues, the Prime Minister mandated that authorities clear road obstructions without issuing traffic tickets, instead focusing on coordinating the removal of damaged vehicles by their owners.

Crucially, the PM instructed the deployment of patrol units to guard the properties and possessions of residents across the flood-affected areas to prevent theft and looting. (TNA)
