BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued an updated advisory on Friday (Nov 28), reporting that Typhoon Koto, positioned over the central South China Sea, is expected to weaken into a low-pressure system near the Vietnamese coast and will not enter Thailand. Even so, colder conditions are forecast across upper Thailand from November 27 to 30.
Temperatures are expected to fall by 3 to 5 °C in the Northeast and by 2 to 4 °C in the North, Central Region, Bangkok, the metropolitan area, and the East. Mountain tops may see lows of 1 to 8 °C with possible frost, while highland plateaus could drop to 6 to 13 °C. Residents are advised to prepare for colder weather and remain cautious of fire hazards during periods of dry air and strong winds. Farmers are urged to take steps to protect crops from cold damage.
Rough marine conditions are also expected in the upper Gulf of Thailand and the upper Andaman Sea, with waves up to 2 meters or more during thunderstorms. Small boats are urged to remain in port, and larger vessels are advised to proceed with caution.
Authorities recommend that the public follow continued updates through the TMD’s website or its 24-hour hotline at 1182. (NNT)
