Thai Health Minister oversees 60th mass drug destruction under ‘Never Stop to Burn’ campaign

Minister of Public Health Pattana Promphat leads the destruction of 34.6 tons of narcotics, including meth, ketamine, and heroin, at Samut Prakan, reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to preventing drug circulation and strengthening rehabilitation programs.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Public Health has conducted the 60th large-scale destruction of confiscated narcotics under the operation “Never Stop to Burn: With Confidence that No Circulation, No Return to Harm Society.”

The destruction ceremony, held on November 19, 2025, at Akkhie Prakarn Public Company Limited in the Bangpu Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan Province, was presided over by Minister of Public Health Pattana Promphat. He was accompanied by Permanent Secretary for Public Health Somruk Jungsaman, Samut Prakan Governor Supamit Chinnasri, and Advisor to the Director-General of the Department of Public Relations Dusit Singkeeree.


This batch includes drugs from 55,876 cases, with a total package weight of 44 tons, consisting primarily of methamphetamine tablets, crystal methamphetamine, ketamine, and sibutramine, along with heroin, chloral hydrate, opium, and other substances. The Ministry also reported progress in drug treatment and rehabilitation efforts in Fiscal Year 2025, with more than 247,000 individuals receiving treatment and over 150,000 completing rehabilitation and reintegrating into society.

The Minister stated that 43,643 kilograms and 203 grams of packaged evidence were approved for destruction, with the actual drug weight totaling 34,655 kilograms, 680 grams, and 416 milligrams. The operation used natural-gas-powered hazardous-waste furnaces, including a rotary kiln incinerator above 850°C and a secondary vertical furnace above 1,200°C, ensuring the destruction of more than 99.99% of harmful organic compounds. Emissions are checked every three hours, and the incineration will run continuously for 36–38 hours.


The Minister added that while the Food and Drug Administration is responsible for the storage, destruction, and reporting of narcotics, the Ministry of Public Health serves as the lead agency for drug treatment and rehabilitation. Working in cooperation with relevant agencies, the Ministry provides treatment through a range of models, including outpatient and inpatient services, community-based care (CBTx), rehabilitation units within healthcare facilities, and programs for offenders. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening rehabilitation capacity to ensure that individuals overcoming drug dependence can reintegrate into society effectively. (NNT)
