Thai and Cambodian officials discuss plans to place temporary boundary markers between Posts 42 and 47 in Sa Kaeo, following agreement on aerial surveys but with joint land measurements still pending.

SA KAEO, Thailand – Thai and Cambodian border officials agreed on two out of three key steps for surveying and installing temporary boundary markers following a seven-hour joint meeting here on Tuesday.

The talks focused on the disputed area between Border Posts 42 and 47, near the villages of Ban Nong Ya Kaew and Ban Nong Chan in Sa Kaeo province.

Colonel Kriangkrai Boontoem, head of the Thai military’s working team, stated the process for placing temporary markers could begin tomorrow, Nov 19, starting at Post 42. When questioned on Cambodian participation, Col Kriangkrai said, “We’ll have to wait and see tomorrow.”

Officials successfully reached consensus on conducting drone aerial surveys of the area and the subsequent installation of temporary markers in the claimed territory. However, the meeting failed to resolve the third core issue, joint land surveying. This was because the Cambodian side’s demand to conduct measurements inside Thai territory was not accepted by the Thai delegation. (TNA)
