MNRE Minister Suchart Chomklin opens the new Center for Air Pollution Mitigation Communication, which will track PM2.5 in real time and issue nationwide alerts through Cell Broadcast, LINE, and SMS.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) today launched the Center for Air Pollution Mitigation Communication (CAPMC) to centralize the fight against seasonal PM2.5 air pollution.

Minister Suchart Chomklin inaugurated the center, emphasizing the government’s focus on integrating data from government agencies and private partners (including LINE and AIS) to provide accurate, real-time updates and a seven-day forecast.

The proactive establishment of CAPMC aims to prevent a public health crisis by addressing the severe pollution typically caused by cold fronts and still air between November and January.

The CAPMC operates 24/7, with core tasks including real-time air quality monitoring via the Air4Thai app, utilizing satellite data for 7-day forecasting and identifying pollution sources (like agricultural burning), and issuing urgent public alerts through three channels: Cell Broadcast, LINE Alert, and SMS Alert.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt confirmed cooperation with the center, noting that the BMA is simultaneously intensifying local controls on vehicles, construction, and factories. These aggressive measures have already shown results, with PM2.5 levels in Bangkok dropping by 23% this November compared to the previous year. (TNA)
