PM Anutin meets Brunei Sultan to strengthen trade, investment, and cooperation

On the sidelines of the 32nd APEC Summit, PM Anutin Charnvirakul met His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, exchanging condolences on Queen Sirikit’s passing and advancing bilateral ties in trade, investment, public health, wellness tourism, halal development, and sustainable food security.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul met with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on the sidelines of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea.

During the audience, His Majesty expressed his deep condolences on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, and reflected on the long-standing, close, and friendly relations between Thailand and Brunei.



In the area of trade and investment, both sides agreed to advance the finalization of a joint investment plan between Thailand’s Government Pension Fund (GPF) and the Brunei Investment Agency (BIA). They also welcomed the completion of the Double Taxation Agreement, which is now ready for signing. Thailand further conveyed its willingness to expand cooperation with Brunei in the fields of public health, wellness tourism, and comprehensive health promotion.


Regarding food security and halal development, Thailand affirmed its readiness to serve as a trusted partner in supporting sustainable food supply for Brunei. Thailand is prepared to increase exports of agricultural products, particularly Thai jasmine rice, known for its high quality and reasonable price, and to broaden cooperation in halal product development.


Both sides agreed to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in trade and investment, sustainable development, human resource development, and public health. The Thai government also expressed its readiness to welcome His Majesty on a future visit to Thailand, including on the occasion of attending the SEA Games, reaffirming the shared commitment to deepen ties between the two nations.
