BANGKOK, Thailand – A 37-year-old woman caused chaos on Ratchaphruek Road when she drove a luxury BMW the wrong way for over 5 kilometers, colliding with 10 vehicles and injuring one person. Among the damaged cars were two Porsches.

Police from Chaiyaphruek Station responded to the scene late Monday night in front of Sammakorn Place, Tambon Om Kret, Pak Kret District. Volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation assisted in the rescue operation.

The initial crash site on the outbound Ratchaphruek Road involved five vehicles, including a Porsche 911 Carrera and a Porsche Cayenne S. About one kilometer away, on a bridge over the Bang Bua Thong canal, the BMW that caused the incident collided head-on with a coconut-laden pickup truck. A 38-year-old passenger in the pickup sustained injuries. Additional cars, including a black Mitsubishi sedan and a taxi, were damaged as other drivers swerved to avoid the BMW.

When questioned, the driver appeared intoxicated and gave inconsistent answers, admitting to having “a little” alcohol. Police measured her blood alcohol concentration at 205 milligrams per 100 milliliters, well above the legal limit. She was taken to Kasemrad International Hospital for treatment of chest pain before facing charges for drunk driving causing property damage.

The incident has raised concerns about road safety, particularly involving high-powered vehicles and impaired drivers. (TNA)
