Pattaya City Council approves supplemental budget and plans expansion of LED streetlights across the city, aiming for safer, well-lit streets and energy efficiency.

PATTAYA, Thailand – The Pattaya City Council held its 4th session of the 3rd ordinary meeting of 2025 on Tuesday, chaired by Banlue Kullawanich, with Deputy Mayors Manot Nongyai and Kritsana Boonsawad, city executives, council members, and department heads in attendance. Siwat Boonkerd, Deputy City Clerk, acted as the council secretary.

During the session, the council approved two key motions: the 2nd Supplemental Budget for FY2025 proposed by the Strategy and Budget Office, and the revised Pattaya City Money Management and Audit Act 2025, which covers receipt, disbursement, deposit, custody, and auditing of city funds.

Council members Phasakorn Yusomboon and Surin Yimyai also raised urgent matters regarding the city’s LED streetlight upgrade project aimed at enhancing public safety. Residents have praised the initiative for improving illumination at high-risk areas, but some areas, particularly along extended boundary markers into neighboring Nongprue municipality, have yet to receive LED upgrades.

Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai explained that Pattaya is transitioning from traditional orange streetlights to 110-watt LED lamps, which are more energy-efficient. A total of 11,000 LED lights are being installed across the city, including 2,500 in Naklua, 2,500 in Nongyai, 3,000 in Jomtien, and 3,000 in Central Pattaya. The city plans to purchase additional LED lights in the 2026 budget to cover remaining areas along the expanded boundary markers, ensuring comprehensive, long-term public safety.

Residents welcome Pattaya’s LED streetlight project for safer, well-lit high-risk areas, though some boundary zones toward Nongprue still await upgrades.
