
BANGKOK, Thailand – A 52-year-old man riding a motorcycle was killed after being struck by a Mercedes-Benz driven by a 19-year-old near a bridge crossing a canal in Khlong Luang district. Police have taken the young driver in for further questioning.
The accident occurred around 03:00 hrs on 15 Sept on Erawan 1 Road, Tambon Khlong Song, Khlong Luang. Police, traffic officers, forensic doctors from Thammasat University Hospital, and rescue workers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded to the scene.
The deceased was identified as Mr. Sunan Buddeehong, 52, from Khlong Song. His Honda Click motorcycle was found overturned with heavy damage to the right side. About 10 meters away, the Mercedes-Benz (license plate 8กร 9779, Bangkok) showed damage to the windshield and right side mirror. The driver, Mr. Phanuwich (surname withheld), 19, remained at the scene awaiting police.
A pickup truck driver who witnessed the incident told police that the motorcycle was waiting to turn across the bridge when the Mercedes overtook his vehicle and collided with the motorcycle, killing the rider. The Mercedes driver stated he was on his way to drop off his girlfriend in Khlong Ha.
Police recorded evidence at the scene, sent the victim to the forensic department for examination, and plan to review CCTV footage. Mr. Phanuwich has been taken to Khlong Luang Police Station for further questioning.
