Lt. Gen. Boonsin Padklang says Cambodia border closure is a tactical move, urging Thai youth to support the military and uphold national unity.

CHIANG MAI, Thailand – Lt. Gen. Boonsin Padklang, Commander of Thailand’s 2nd Army Region, emphasized that closing border checkpoints with Cambodia is a tactical measure to protect national interests. Speaking at a special lecture at Rajabhat Chiang Mai University, he addressed over 2,000 students, cadets, and local residents, urging Thai youth to uphold the nation’s core institutions, love for the homeland, loyalty to the monarchy, and support for religion.

During the lecture, Boonsin praised soldiers’ sacrifices, expressed condolences for civilians affected by cross-border attacks, and condemned Cambodian military actions using heavy weaponry indiscriminately. He highlighted that the army’s role is to provide frontline information and recommendations to the government, while border closures aim to limit resources such as food and fuel to Cambodia—a strategy intended to reduce conflict without direct confrontation.

The commander noted that modern soldiers face numerous challenges, from economic pressures to political scrutiny, but stressed that public support remains crucial. He assured that the morale and backing of Thai citizens empower the military to perform its duties effectively, safeguarding national security along the border. (TNA)
