Bangkok to host weeklong tribute for King Ananda Mahidol’s centenary at Wat Suthat

From September 20–27, cultural demonstrations and crafts will honor the late monarch’s legacy, inviting the public to join in remembrance and celebration of Thai heritage.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Office of the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, in partnership with Wat Suthat Thepwararam, has announced a program of commemorative activities honoring His Majesty King Ananda Mahidol on the centenary of his birth.

The weeklong event, taking place from September 20 to 27, will be held daily from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Wat Suthat Thepwararam in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district. Organizers said the program is intended to honor the memory and legacy of King Ananda Mahidol, whose reign continues to hold a place of deep reverence in Thai history.



Activities cover cultural demonstrations that showcase Thailand’s artistic heritage. These include traditional ornament-making, gold-leaf gilding, embroidery, and the crafting of decorative perfumed fans. Other highlights will feature crochet work, Thai dessert preparation, fruit and vegetable carving, and garland threading.

The demonstrations will offer the public an opportunity to experience the richness of Thai craftsmanship while taking part in the centenary observance. Each activity showcases cultural practices closely tied to the nation’s identity and ceremonial life.

The public is invited to attend and participate throughout the week, joining in remembrance of King Ananda Mahidol’s life and legacy while paying respects to his immeasurable contributions to the Thai people. (NNT)
