BANGKOK, Thailand – Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, currently serving as Acting Prime Minister, has confirmed that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has traveled abroad for medical reasons.
In response to questions about whether the Pheu Thai Party had been informed of Thaksin’s whereabouts, Phumtham stated that they were notified he would be undergoing a health check-up in Singapore. Regarding reports of Thaksin’s presence in Dubai, Phumtham pointed to a personal Facebook post made by Thaksin, which provides full clarification.
Thaksin’s post reportedly addresses both his international travel and his plans to return to Thailand in time to attend a court hearing scheduled for September 9.
Phumtham emphasized that he does not have access to further specific details beyond what has been publicly shared.
On the political front, when asked about the Pheu Thai Party’s role regarding the prime ministerial vote, Phumtham stated that he has fully performed all duties required of him as Acting Prime Minister and is now awaiting the House’s decision. (NNT)
