Court spokesperson Dr. Rattawit Ariyaphatphon says Thaksin’s lèse-majesté case was dismissed, ending his temporary release conditions and lifting the travel ban.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The spokesperson for the Court of Justice announced that the lèse-majesté case against former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been dismissed, meaning the conditions of his temporary release have ended. Immigration Police have been notified to revoke the previous order prohibiting him from traveling abroad.

Dr. Rattawit Ariyaphatphon, Judge of the Court of Appeal attached to the President of the Supreme Court, explained that the Criminal Court dismissed the case on August 22 concerning Thaksin’s 2015 interview with South Korean media. Both parties retain the right to appeal within 30 days. Following the ruling, Thaksin’s lawyer collected his passport.

Since there was no order to detain him pending appeal, his temporary release conditions no longer apply, and immigration has lifted the travel restriction.

Meanwhile, on September 9, the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions will rule on the case regarding Thaksin’s stay at the Police Hospital. Thaksin and the Bangkok Remand Prison Commander are required to attend the hearing. According to court procedures, parties do not need to confirm attendance in advance, but they are obliged to appear as summoned. (TNA)
