PATTAYA, Thailand – Visitors may be enjoying sunny skies and strong winds along the coast today, but weather authorities are warning that hidden rain clouds could quickly change the mood. The Thai Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country, with the risk of flash floods and sudden runoff in at least 20 provinces.

While Pattaya itself has so far seen bright sunshine and gusty winds, the combination of stronger southwest monsoon currents over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, along with a lingering low-pressure system moving across the North, means the weather could turn quickly. Locals and tourists alike are advised not to be deceived by the blue skies overhead—conditions can shift in minutes.

Across Thailand, provinces such as Udon Thani, Loei, Nan, Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Nakhon Sawan, Trat, Ranong, and Phang Nga are bracing for intense downpours and potential flooding, particularly in foothill and low-lying areas. The upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are also experiencing rough seas, with waves reaching 2–3 meters and even higher during thunderstorms. Small boats in these regions are strongly advised to stay ashore, while larger vessels should proceed with caution.

For Pattaya’s beachfront, the strong winds may make for dramatic waves and breezy walks along the shore, but authorities urge residents and long-term visitors to remain alert. Hidden rain clouds moving in from the Gulf could bring sudden storms, slippery roads, and dangerous surf conditions.

In short, enjoy the sunshine—but keep an umbrella close at hand.
