People’s Party leader Natthapong remains undecided, keeping options open between Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai for next PM.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Natthapong Rueangpanyawut, leader of the People’s Party, confirmed on August 30 that his party has not yet decided whether to support Pheu Thai or Bhumjaithai in selecting Thailand’s next prime minister. He emphasized that the party will only consider proposals presented directly by party representatives and ruled out any backroom deals.

Speaking at the Conrad Hotel in Bangkok, Natthapong denied reports of any arrangement with Bhumjaithai, stressing that the Prachachon Party’s 143 votes aim to resolve the political deadlock without joining the government. He reiterated that the party would not support any candidate linked to former Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The party will hold a meeting of its executive committee and MPs on Monday, September 1, to finalize its decision. Natthapong said the priority is the country’s best interest, ensuring a legitimate government backed by public mandate, and any vote for prime minister will align with the timeline for a future election.

Additionally, Natthapong addressed rumors of secret negotiations with other parties and former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, dismissing them as irrelevant. He confirmed that the party plans to sign MOUs with parties that respond officially to its proposals and expects the prime ministerial vote to take place on Wednesday, September 3. (TNA)
