PATTAYA, Thailand — Visitors to Pattaya’s beaches and streets have been feeling the full force of Thailand’s August heat this week, as soaring temperatures and intense humidity send locals and tourists alike seeking shade, umbrellas, and standing fans.

Temperatures have consistently hovered around 34–36°C (93–97°F) during the day, with the humid tropical air making it feel even hotter. Beachgoers cling to colorful umbrellas along Pattaya Beach, while vendors sell cooling beverages and handheld fans to help tourists survive the sweltering midday sun.

“This August sun is intense,” said a German long-term visitor relaxing under a rented umbrella on the beach. “We love spending time here, but a bit of shade or sitting next to a standing fan makes all the difference in staying comfortable.”

Street-side cafes and restaurants are also seeing more visitors seeking air-conditioned relief, while outdoor markets are slower than usual during peak sunlight hours. The combination of strong sun and high humidity has prompted warnings from local authorities for people to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure.

Despite the heat, Pattaya’s tourist spirit remains resilient. Many visitors adapt by planning early-morning or late-afternoon excursions, when the sun is less intense, or taking advantage of shaded areas along walking streets and promenades. “A little sweat is part of the adventure,” said an Australian couple sipping cold drinks while enjoying the seaside view.

While August is traditionally one of the hotter, wetter months in Pattaya, this year’s prolonged heatwave has made personal cooling strategies — umbrellas, fans, and plenty of water — essential accessories for enjoying the city’s beaches and streets.
