BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued Cell Broadcast alerts to residents in 17 provinces across northern and upper central Thailand, warning of flash floods, runoff, river overflows, and landslides as Tropical Storm Kajiki moves closer. Alerts were delivered directly to mobile phones through cooperation with AIS, True, and NT.
Kajiki is expected to make landfall in northern Vietnam between August 25 and 26 before weakening. Its impact, however, is forecast to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds across Thailand from August 24 to 27. Low-lying, riverside, and hillside areas are considered most at risk.
Provinces under alert include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, and Uthai Thani. Residents are urged to follow official updates and prepare for potential evacuation if conditions worsen.
Precautions include moving valuables to higher ground and relocating vulnerable individuals such as the elderly, children, and bedridden patients to safe areas. Local authorities are on standby to respond to emergencies.
