Severe Tropical Storm Kajiki to bring heavy rain and strong winds across Thailand

Severe Tropical Storm Kajiki, moving west over the South China Sea, is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas to northern, northeastern, central, eastern, and southern regions of Thailand from August 25–27.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Severe Tropical Storm Kajiki was located over the upper South China Sea this early morning (Aug 24), approximately 570 kilometers east of Dong Hoi, Vietnam. Moving west at 20 kilometers per hour, the storm is expected to intensify as it enters the Gulf of Tonkin before weakening after landfall in northern Vietnam between August 25 and 26.

Thailand is forecast to experience widespread impacts from August 25 to 27. Heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected across the upper northeastern, northern, central, and eastern regions, as well as along the western coast of the southern region. Bangkok and its surrounding areas are also expected to see adverse weather during this period.



Residents in affected areas are advised to prepare for potential flash floods and runoff, especially in flood-prone zones, near hillsides, and along rivers or streams. Prolonged rainfall may lead to hazardous conditions in both urban and rural areas.

Rough seas are expected in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, with strong winds and high waves likely. The public is urged to stay updated through official forecasts, as the storm’s path and intensity may shift. (NNT)
