
SURIN, Thailand – Chief of Defense Forces Gen Songwit Noonpakdee has visited Surin province to inspect operations by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Clearance Team of the Thailand Mine Action Centre (TMAC). Accompanied by his delegation, he reviewed ongoing efforts to safeguard communities in border areas affected by landmines and unexploded ordnance.
The delegation was welcomed by the commander of the Humanitarian Mine Action Unit 3 in Phanom Dong Rak district. Gen. Songwit received a briefing on operational procedures, observed the disposal of explosive remnants of war, and inspected deployed personnel.
During the visit, the Chief of Defense Forces also met residents of Ban Kaset Sombun, who continue to face risks from mines and other remnants of past conflict. His engagement with the community helped build trust in the military’s continued clearance efforts.
Gen Songwit stressed the importance of uninterrupted mine clearance and the role of TMAC in reducing threats while ensuring the safety of border populations. He reaffirmed that the operations in high-risk areas will continue until the military declares them safe. (NNT)
