BANGKOK, Thailand – The government invited families nationwide to celebrate National Mother’s Day on Tuesday (Aug 12) with a range of free activities honoring Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, on her birthday anniversary. Events in Bangkok and across the country offered opportunities for mothers and children to enjoy time together in nature and with wildlife.

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation waived entry and vehicle fees for Thai nationals at all protected forest areas, including national parks, forest parks, botanical gardens, arboretums, wildlife sanctuaries, and non-hunting areas. Visitors explored Thailand’s natural beauty while learning about conservation and the importance of protecting the environment.

Free admission was also available at all facilities under the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand for seniors aged 60 and above and for children aged 12 or younger, or under 135 centimeters in height. Participating locations included Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Chiang Mai Zoo, Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo, Ubon Ratchathani Zoo, Khon Kaen Zoo, Songkhla Zoo, and the Surin Province Elephant Kingdom Project.

Organizers reported large turnouts at parks and zoos, with activities and exhibits designed to offer shared experiences and lasting memories for mothers and children while showcasing Thailand’s natural and wildlife heritage.

As the celebrations fell during the rainy season, visitors were advised to check weather forecasts and bring umbrellas or raincoats to make the most of the day’s events. (NNT)
