BANGKOK, Thailand – Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa led the 58th ASEAN Day celebration today at Lumpini Park, marking a new chapter in Thailand’s efforts to strengthen regional ties through inclusive, people-centered initiatives. The event, held outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the first time, featured the inaugural “ASEAN Family Run,” a sports diplomacy initiative aimed at fostering closer connections among ASEAN members.

Organized by the Department of ASEAN Affairs, the celebration commemorated the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Bangkok in 1967. Minister Maris highlighted Thailand’s role as a founding member and its enduring commitment to advancing ASEAN’s goals of peace, stability, and prosperity.

The Foreign Minister reiterated Thailand’s support for the ASEAN Vision 2045, which aims to deepen regional cooperation across economic, social, and security dimensions. He emphasized the importance of sustainable development, innovation, and ensuring that no one is left behind as the region moves forward.

Maris also extended his appreciation to Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, ambassadors and representatives from ASEAN member states, dialogue partners, government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and other stakeholders who participated in the celebration.

The ceremony concluded with the symbolic raising of the ASEAN flag and the 2.5-kilometer ASEAN Family Run, reinforcing the event’s theme of unity, collaboration, and community-building. (NNT)
