BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Cabinet has approved compensation payments of 10 million baht for families of deceased soldiers and 8 million baht for families of deceased civilians affected by the Thai-Cambodian border conflict. The government also established a committee to monitor and analyze fake news on social media that could threaten national security and public safety.

Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai expressed deep condolences to all affected families during a Cabinet meeting focused on overcoming dual crises together. He emphasized the government’s commitment to cooperate with all sectors to compensate for losses of life, property, and income suffered by the people.

Regarding the recent 19% U.S. tariff imposed on Thai goods, Phumtham assured that Thailand remains competitive globally and holds advantages over regional competitors. To help businesses adapt, the government has introduced financial measures including soft loans, debt moratoriums, and initiatives encouraging consumption of domestically made products. A budget has also been set to support both large and small entrepreneurs, especially strengthening Thai farmers, to ensure they can collectively handle these changes steadily.

Phumtham stressed that lessons learned from recent events require unity among all Thais to drive the country forward. (TNA)
