Tourism Minister inspects Phuket safety measures to reinforce Thailand’s global travel appeal

Minister Sorawong leads a high-level delegation to Phuket on August 1, visiting Patong Beach and Bangla Walking Street, reviewing lifeguard operations, CCTV surveillance, and engaging with tourists—part of efforts to ensure a secure, world-class visitor experience.

PHUKET, Thailand – Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong visited Phuket on August 1 to assess safety measures at key tourist locations and meet with local authorities to support efforts in maintaining Thailand’s standing as a premier travel destination. The visit involved plans to ensure a safe environment for visitors and improve coordination among agencies responsible for public safety.



Accompanying the Minister were Advisor to the Minister Jakrapat Klongpayaban, Permanent Secretary Natreeya Taweewong, Tourist Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Saksira Pueak-am, and Titipong Khiewpaisal, Chairman of the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA). The delegation took part in a strategic workshop at the Royal Phuket City Hotel, which gathered government officials, local business representatives, and honorary consuls to discuss ongoing tourism-related issues.

During the session, participants shared insights on operational challenges and reviewed plans to strengthen safety and service quality. The Minister Sorawong stressed the role of surveillance and technology in protecting tourists and highlighted the importance of clear coordination between national and local bodies to deliver consistent standards.


After the meeting, Sorawong visited Patong Beach to observe lifeguard operations and review water safety preparedness. The visit continued at Bangla Walking Street, where he inspected the 24-hour CCTV Command and Control Center and observed the deployment of security personnel throughout the area. He also spoke informally with tourists and local business owners about their experiences and concerns. (NNT)
