Deputy Defence Minister Gen. Natthaphon confirms ceasefire breaches involving civilian zones, halts joint programs with Cambodia, and pledges proportionate response as evidence mounts.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Minister of Defence Gen. Natthaphon Narkphanit held a press briefing today (July 30) addressing rising tensions along the Thai–Cambodian border. He confirmed that Cambodian forces violated the ceasefire agreement through repeated use of small arms and grenades in civilian areas, including schools, gas stations, and homes. Thai troops responded proportionally in line with international rules of engagement. Military attachés have been invited to inspect the affected sites, and evidence is being compiled for domestic and international review.

Gen. Natthaphon criticized Cambodia’s military leadership for denying confirmed incidents and failing to support their frontline troops. Thai authorities have documented damage to public infrastructure, medical facilities, and residences. He also dismissed speculation about foreign fighters, clarifying that individuals seen in viral clips were Cambodian soldiers.

In response, Thailand has suspended all military cooperation with Cambodia, including exchange programs and policy coordination. Security has been tightened at military installations, and the Defence Ministry has requested updated inventories to plan for equipment replacement. While current gear is mostly defensive, Thailand is reviewing its offensive readiness.

Ceasefire violations have been formally documented and shared publicly in Thai and English. Retaliation, if necessary, will be measured and based on troop safety. With the ceasefire still under pressure, uncertainty remains ahead of the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on August 4.

Border communities remain affected, with some residents returning despite safety concerns. Police and interior officials are securing properties, while forensic teams gather evidence. Wider civilian return depends on ground conditions. Emergency support remains available.

Thailand continues to present its case through diplomatic and military channels. Despite conflicting narratives from Cambodia, Thai authorities are maintaining a consistent message supported by verified documentation. Officials continue to assess the situation while working to prevent further escalation. (NNT)
