Heavy clashes erupt along Thai-Cambodian border in Ubon Ratchathani and Surin

BANGKOK, Thailand – Clashes erupted between Thai and Cambodian forces early this morning along the border in Ubon Ratchathani and Surin provinces, with heavy weaponry reportedly being used.

According to Army Deputy Spokesperson Colonel Richa Suksuwanon, the Royal Thai Army received field reports that the engagement began at approximately 4:00 AM. The areas affected are Chong Bok and Phu Makhuea in Ubon Ratchathani Province, and Phanom Dong Rak District in Surin Province.



Cambodian forces have conducted a sustained bombardment using heavy weapons, field artillery, and BM-21 rocket systems. The shelling was reported to be ongoing as of 8:00 AM. Thai forces have responded with supporting fire appropriate to the tactical situation and have issued warnings for civilians to stay clear of the conflict areas.
