AYUTTHAYA, 25 August 2015 – The Department of Water Resources (DWR) will be implementing its water management plan over 13 provinces to prevent floods and water shortages, while maintaining water quality.

The plan was unveiled to 500 people attending a conference held earlier today in Ayutthaya province. DWR Deputy Director General Niwatchai Khampee said Thailand faces three common water-related concerns, namely flooding, drought and water quality.

He said these issues have caused significant loss of life and property in Thailand, and are likely to intensify. The National Council for Peace and Order appointed five committees to develop an effective response to these growing concerns.

All stakeholders are expected to get involved in water management, which will be executed within each river basin. The policy has been developed to encourage relevant agencies to identify the problems, determine the solutions and implement short-, medium- and long-term plans.
