GUANGDONG – Southern coastal regions of China have issued emergency warnings for flooding and typhoons after Tropical Storm Wutip made landfall in Hainan Province yesterday. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported that local authorities in provinces such as Guangdong and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have ordered fishing boats back to shore, closed beaches, and shut down coastal businesses as a precaution.
According to China’s National Meteorological Center, Wutip brought heavy rain and strong winds across the region after making landfall in southern Hainan. The storm formed in the South China Sea and strengthened into a tropical storm on June 11. Wutip, which means “butterfly” in Cantonese, is the first named storm of the 2025 Pacific typhoon season.
Thailand is monitoring the situation closely, particularly along its eastern and southern coasts, in case of indirect weather effects such as heavy rain or strong winds in the days ahead. (TNA)
