Social Development Ministry puts border provinces on alert to protect children, elderly, and disabled.

BANGKOK, Thailand –The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has bolstered efforts to support vulnerable groups amid rising tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border. Minister Varawut Silpa-archa has instructed ministry personnel in border provinces to follow national protocols from the Disaster Care Center for the Vulnerable (DCCV), ensuring timely and effective aid for those at risk.

Classifying unrest as a form of disaster, the ministry has mobilized staff to protect children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Personnel in provinces such as Trat, Chanthaburi, Sa Kaeo, Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, and Buri Ram have been placed on alert and directed to coordinate closely with agencies responsible for security and emergency response.

The DCCV is prepared to deploy social workers, psychologists, and support teams to offer counseling and home visits for those experiencing anxiety or emotional distress. Officials are particularly mindful of the psychological impact on elderly individuals and children during this tense period.

Evacuation plans are ready if conditions worsen. The DCCV maintains detailed records of at-risk individuals in each area and collaborates with local authorities to arrange safe relocation when necessary.

The ministry has urged the public to rely on verified news sources and remain calm, encouraging families to monitor the mental well-being of vulnerable members and to support one another as the situation develops. (NNT)
