LOEI, Thailand – Continuous rainfall since May 25 has caused severe flooding in Phu Kradueng District, Loei Province, submerging more than 150 homes. The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM) has issued urgent flood warnings for flash floods and riverbank overflows along the Pong River, advising residents in Phu Kradueng and Sri Than Subdistricts to move belongings to higher ground and evacuate vulnerable groups to safe areas.

The flooding has affected three subdistricts within the district, with the Pong River rising rapidly and spilling over its banks, inundating riverside communities. Aerial images reveal large volumes of water flowing from upstream areas – including runoff from the Phu Kradueng National Park and Pong Ko stream – converging into the Pong River.

In Phanok Khao Subdistrict, located at the border between Loei and Khon Kaen provinces, several roads have been cut off. At Phanok Khao Community School, teachers allowed kindergarten children to return home early and helped move school equipment to higher ground, as the school sits in a low-lying area right behind the river.

The DDPM continues to monitor the situation closely and urges affected communities to remain alert for sudden water level changes and comply with evacuation orders to prevent casualties. (TNA)
