Ahead of the consultation, Maris met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamad Hasan to reaffirm Thailand’s support for Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the 46th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, where regional leaders are addressing key challenges, including the situation in Myanmar. On May 24, he participated in the Extended Informal Consultation at the ministerial level, where discussions focused on Myanmar’s recovery from a recent earthquake and efforts to support progress in line with ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus.

Ahead of the consultation, Maris met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamad Hasan to reaffirm Thailand’s support for Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship. The two ministers also discussed regional stability and ongoing efforts to help resolve the crisis in Myanmar.



Maris later held bilateral talks with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn to address cross-border PM2.5 air pollution and joint measures to combat online scams and call center fraud affecting both countries.

Both sides agreed to strengthen coordination between law enforcement agencies, focusing on improved information-sharing to address transnational criminal networks. They also supported enhanced cross-border cooperation on public safety and security. (NNT)
