PATTAYA, Thailand – Don Mueang International Airport has issued a travel advisory after severe thunderstorms caused flash flooding and major traffic congestion in the Don Mueang district. The airport’s official Facebook page warned that travelers should plan to leave 2–3 hours earlier than usual, as road conditions could result in significant delays.
“Due to severe thunderstorms in the Don Mueang area, traffic may be heavily congested. To prevent missing your flight, we advise all passengers to carefully plan their journey and allow for an additional 2 to 3 hours of travel time,” the airport stated.
The advisory is particularly important for travelers coming from Pattaya, a popular beach city approximately 150 kilometers from Bangkok. With rain falling across many parts of the country, including Chonburi province, those heading to Don Mueang from Pattaya are encouraged to check weather and traffic reports regularly and consider departing even earlier to ensure on-time arrival.
This week’s weather disruptions are part of a broader system affecting Thailand. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in 66 provinces, including Bangkok and Chonburi, from May 23–27. Authorities caution that flash floods, runoff, and high winds may occur, especially on May 24–25, when rainfall could reach 100 mm in 24 hours in some areas.
