Pattaya on Alert: Heavy rain expected May 24–25 as early monsoon sweeps in.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya is preparing for several days of heavy rain as Thailand’s Meteorological Department warns of intensified weather conditions between May 23–27, with May 24–25 identified as critical days for flash floods, runoff, and strong winds across 66 provinces, including Chonburi.

According to Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Weather Forecast Division, the country is currently under the influence of a strengthened southwest monsoon and a low-pressure cell over the Andaman Sea, which may intensify further. These conditions are expected to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall across many regions, with some areas facing up to 100 mm of rain in a 24-hour period due to accumulation.

While Pattaya is expected to experience this weather system only briefly, the impact could still be disruptive, particularly in low-lying or flood-prone areas, or locations near hillsides and natural watercourses. Local authorities are on alert and have urged residents to take precautions, avoid outdoor activities during storms, and monitor official updates.

The Meteorological Department has issued a public weather alert covering the Eastern Region, including Chonburi, as well as provinces in the North, Northeast, Central, and South. Residents are advised to avoid risky areas during heavy rain, and all relevant agencies have been asked to prepare systematic emergency responses.

For real-time weather alerts and preparedness information, residents can follow updates via www.tmd.go.th, call 0-2399-4012, or dial the 1182 hotline, available 24 hours. (TNA)
