BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra posted a message on her personal social media, expressing sorrow over the ongoing mentions of the rice-pledging scheme case. Her message coincided with the 11th anniversary of the May 22, 2014 coup that ousted her aunt’s government (Yingluck Shinawatra).

The Prime Minister said she feels pain every time the case resurfaces in the media and questioned whether Thai society is truly delivering justice—especially when the policy in question was designed to support farmers, a group often referred to as the “backbone of the nation.”

“The future of Thai farmers was lost 11 years ago,” she wrote. “Even after more than a decade, today’s court ruling still raises serious questions about the justice system—against a policy meant to help farmers, those who made Thailand known as the ‘kitchen of the world.’”

Paetongtarn concluded by asking whether society can continue down this path of perceived regression, emphasizing the need for fairness and justice for all.

“A Lost Future and a Question of Justice” – Paetongtarn mourns the impact of the rice-pledging case and challenges society’s commitment to fairness for farmers.
