PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand’s popular beach destination Pattaya has been named one of the top 10 safest cities in ASEAN for 2025, according to Numbeo, a global database that tracks cost of living and quality of life data across hundreds of cities worldwide. Pattaya ranked 9th in the regional safety index with a score of 53.9, highlighting growing public confidence in the city’s safety, especially for tourists and long-term residents.
The list is topped by Chiang Mai, which earned the title of safest city in ASEAN with an outstanding score of 78.2, narrowly edging out Singapore (77.4). Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, also made a strong showing, ranking 7th with a score of 60.7.
Numbeo’s Safety Index considers public perceptions of crime, safety during the day and night, and concerns about issues like theft, assault, burglary, and vandalism. It reflects how people experience safety on a personal and community level, rather than relying solely on official crime statistics.
Pattaya’s inclusion in the top 10 marks a notable achievement for a city traditionally known for its nightlife. It underscores the city’s ongoing efforts to diversify its appeal and strengthen public services, infrastructure, and policing. Authorities have also invested in more family-friendly attractions and digital security systems aimed at improving safety for both locals and international visitors.
This recognition comes as Thailand continues to perform strongly on the global tourism stage. Between January 1 and May 11, 2025, the country welcomed nearly 13 million international tourists, generating over 613 billion baht in revenue. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has set an ambitious target of 39 million visitors and 3.4 trillion baht in revenue by the end of the year — and a strong reputation for safety will play a key role in achieving that.
