BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Culture, led by Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, has launched a national songwriting competition to celebrate National Thai Language Day on July 29. Open to youth aged 25 and under, the contest invites original songs under the theme “Creative Communication through the Thai Language.” The goal is to promote the value of the Thai language while encouraging the creation of safe and positive media. Submissions are open until June 20.
Organized by the Cultural Surveillance Division, the competition is now in its fourth year. Participants may enter as individuals or in teams of up to two people. Entries must include original Thai-language lyrics that promote the preservation and cultural importance of the Thai language. All music styles are accepted, including adaptations of traditional melodies, provided the work is original and unpublished.
Entries must include a music video lasting two to three minutes. Content must respect national institutions, avoid defamatory or harmful material, and comply with Thai law and public decency standards. All submissions must be new and not previously entered in other competitions.
Participants must submit their videos and application forms by email to [email protected] by 4:30 p.m. on June 20. Details are available through the Culture Hotline at 1765, the Cultural Surveillance Division’s Facebook page, or at https://surveillance.m-culture.go.th. Local Provincial Cultural Offices can also provide assistance.
The competition seeks to inspire young people to engage creatively with the Thai language and support its preservation as part of Thailand’s cultural identity. Winning entries will be recognized as part of this year’s National Thai Language Day celebrations.
