BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has dispatched a second military team of 55 personnel to Myanmar to assist with earthquake relief efforts under “Operation Mandalay 82.” The team, which departed from Don Mueang Air Base yesterday (Apr 5), is tasked with delivering medical assistance and constructing temporary shelters for those displaced by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.

The deployment includes command staff, medical emergency responders, engineers, search and rescue personnel, support staff, and a security unit. Each rotation will serve for approximately eight days, with the objective of treating at least 100 patients per day and building up to 30 shelters daily.

Gen Songwit Noonpackdee, Chief of Defense Forces, presided over the departure ceremony and conducted a final briefing. He stressed the importance of safety, coordination, and professionalism while reminding personnel of the humanitarian spirit underpinning the mission.

Thai government officials are also coordinating with those from Myanmar and ASEAN representatives to set up a regional coordination hub under the AHA Centre, using Thai Air Force bases as logistics sites for aid distribution. (NNT)
